The renowned logistics company Gruber Logistics is gradually renewing its fleet structure with resource-saving truck drive types. Since last month, the Staufenberg branch near Gießen has been using a powerful electric truck from Scania for its transport orders. The R 450E A4x2NB model, powered by 612 horsepower and with a battery capacity of nearly 470 kilowatt-hours, is operating for a major customer in Hesse. At the Staufenberg location, a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles has been created for this new acquisition, as well as for future electric trucks and internal and external visitor trucks.
“The E-truck, which was handed over to us by the Scania dealer in Haiger at the beginning of March, fits perfectly into our fleet strategy to reduce CO2 emissions,” says Michael Blaas, Fleet Innovation Specialist at Gruber Logistics, about the new addition in Staufenberg. “We are following the great dynamics that have developed in the logistics industry in general and in our company in particular in recent years as part of decarbonization efforts. Thanks to a multi-brand logic, which includes partnerships with Scania as well as Daimler and Volvo, we are continuously optimizing the use of electromobility at Gruber Logistics.”
With a range of up to 350 kilometers per trip and an anticipated annual mileage of 100,000 kilometers, the new electric vehicle will be ecologically serving Gruber Logistics’ customers. Thanks to the ongoing technological advancements in this drive technology, further performance improvements are expected, which will also benefit the South Tyrolean company in its continued move away from fossil fuels.
Bernd Lauer, Branch Manager of Gruber Logistics in Staufenberg, is pleased with the modernization of both his fleet and the site infrastructure: “We can thus fully meet the noticeably increased demand from customers for more sustainable road freight transport with the new 40-ton Scania. With the company’s own charging station, which is operated with ‘green electricity,’ we are more independent of external infrastructure, which is still under construction.”
The new acquisition at the central Hessian branch is already the fourth electric truck at Gruber Logistics in Germany. Two have been operating for the Kreuztal location since the beginning of last year, and another has been in service for Siemens in Leipzig since May 2024. In the company’s home country of Italy, investments have also been made in sustainable transport solutions, and the development of battery-powered trucks has been partly advanced in cooperation with Scania and Electrolux.
